You can now generate your own sick note, via clicking onto the following website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice
Then click on “Get Isolation Note” – which is half way down page highlighted in green.
This will take you to the NHS111 page where patients will be asked to answer a few questions.
On completion a reference number will be emailed to the patient which is the sick note.

Register for Doctorlink
For all urgent appointments, we ask that you undertake a symptom assessment through DoctorLink.
The symptom assessment will ask you a number of questions to help to identify your problem.
The outcome of your assessment will direct you to the right treatment, whether emergency care, your GP, nurse or self-care.
If your outcome indicates that an appointment is required at your GP practice, you simply click on the “request an appointment” button.
Once the request has been submitted, you will then be contacted by the Practice Team, to arrange an appointment within the identified timeframe (as outlined in the outcome of your symptom checker).
The information you provide will be shared with our clinical team (where appropriate) and will assist in providing robust information of your problem to the required clinical team member prior to your appointment.
Type 2 Diabetes - Soup and Shake Diets
You may have heard on media channels that the NHS is offering free soup and shake diets for people with Type 2 diabetes. The initiative is being rolled out in specific areas of the country. In the South East this is Frimley Health & Care STP, therefore this is not yet available for Kent and Medway patients. We have asked that NHSE inform us when the plan for further roll-out will be available so we can update you all.
In the meantime – the One You programme in Kent and Diabetes UK have a range of resources available to provide support, with topics including exercise for being active at home, diet, and mental wellbeing while staying at home or self-isolating.
Public Health Engagement during Flu Clinic
We were really pleased to be asked to support with an event at the surgery, where the first flu jabs of the year were being trialled in an out-door clinic. Risk of flu can be linked with lifestyle factors such as smoking, so we spoke to patients about their lifestyle, keeping healthy and also the services that are on offer in Medway to support people improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The outdoor flu clinic was a great success and we managed to engage with many of the surgery’s patients attending about their lifestyle, if there is anything they would like to change, and what they would like support with. Lots of information was provided about the Public Health services in Medway, and we took some referrals into the Stop Smoking Service.
‘A Better Medway’ Public Health Services include smoking cessation, mental wellbeing, physical activity, weight loss, health checks. Information about these services can be found on www.abettermedway.co.uk, or by phoning 01634 334814.

Information for patients
Please note that this practice will be closed for staff training from 12 noon on Thursday 17th September 2020 and will re-open the following morning at 8am.
If you require urgent medical care (i.e. you have symptoms that need immediate attention) during this time, please ring
If you need to make a routine appointment, request a repeat prescription, or if you are waiting for tests results, please wait until the following morning when the practice re-opens.
Please ask the receptionist if you have any questions about arrangements for medical cover on that afternoon.
Change of Clinical System
On Thursday 17th September, we will be switching our Clinical Systems. As with all system changes, there will be a small level of disruption (which we're working hard to minimise). We're therefore asking you to please bear with us if things take a little longer than usual, as our staff get to grips with the new system.

PATIENT NOTICE - FLU CLINICS
The Flu Season will soon be upon us and the team at St Mary's Medical Centre are working hard to prepare the clinics for patients to come in and have their flu jab done.
We are currently doing vaccinations for patients over 65 years old and welcome all patients in this age range to call the surgery and book their vaccination.
We are awaiting stock of the vaccinations for patients under 65 years of age and these are due to be delivered Late September/Early October. We will be sending out messages to all eligible patients once we receive them.s.
This year the flu vaccine is being offered at the surgery to:
Adults 65 and over
People with certain medical conditions (including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age). These conditions include the following –
- Chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma (that requires an inhaled or tablet steroid treatment, or has led to hospital Admission in the past), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
- Chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
- Chronic kidney disease
- Chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
- Chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), or cerebral palsy
- A learning disability
- Problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
- A weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
- Being seriously overweight (a BMI of 40 or above)
People living with someone who's at high risk from coronavirus (on the NHS shielded patient list)
Children aged 2 and 3 on 31 August 2020
Frontline health or social care workers
We will be contacting eligible patients to book their appointments once we have confirmed clinic dates but if you have any questions, please contact the surgery.
Please note that people in the 50-64-year old age group will not be vaccinated until November and December, providing there is sufficient vaccine, and no appointments will be offered for this age group until then. This is to ensure that those who are most at risk are vaccinated first. If you are 50-64 and you are in one of the other groups which is eligible for the flu vaccination, for example you have a health condition which puts you at risk from the flu, you will be invited earlier.
PATIENT NOTICE - CHANGES TO THE WAY WE PROVIDE CARE
As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the way that we offer medical care to our patients has changed as listed below -
You will receive most of your care by voice and video calls.
You may need to access services using apps and online via the practice website and email.
Your prescriptions (where possible) will be sent electronically to your chosen pharmacist. You will not need to collect your prescription from the practice in most cases.
Please make sure that you:
Check the practice website for updates on any changes.
Do not attend the GP practice unless invited to do so.
If you are invited to attend the GP Practice, please can you wear a face mask/covering. This is for your protection as well as the protection of the staff at the surgery.

Notice to patients
St Marys Medical Centre welcomes a new provider of GP medical services from 1st April 2020.
You do not need to do anything and all normal services will continue in the usual way.
Whilst Dr Pancholi has now stepped down from heading up the practice, we are pleased to confirm that your longstanding GP remains at St Marys 3 days a week and you can continue to see her.
St Marys Medical Centre will now be run by the Partners of ‘The Halfway Surgery’. This means patients can access services at both surgery locations, and will see an extended clinical team including a number of Senior GPs and other healthcare professionals including Pharmacist, Paramedic and Prescribing Nurse.

History Of The Practice
In the 1950s the practice was split between two surgery sites - one in Strood and one in Rochester. Increasing traffic density led to the establishment of a two-partner and later a three-partner practice on two sites in Strood: one in Frindsbury Hill next to Williams Pharmacy and the other in Weston Road.
In 1971 the practice moved with other GPs into a purpose-built health centre in Gun Lane. By the 1980s this building had become very overcrowded and in 1990 the four partners acquired the old St Mary’s school site where a purpose-built surgery for five partners was built. The building is a pleasant place to work in and has given us the space to expand with changes in general practice.
As a practice team, we hope to continue to serve the needs of our patients for many years to come.
The Practice Premises
Our tastefully decorated waiting room is fully air-conditioned. On the first floor we have additional consulting rooms which are used by professions allied to general medicine. Over the years new medical equipment including a minor ops couch, a spirometer and a carbon monoxide monitor for use with smoking cessation have been purchased. Our modern computer system means that all medical records are fully computerised. All data is entered onto the system, although correspondence is also filed in manual records. A visual appointment call system is in operation. This is especially helpful for those patients who are hard of hearing and is also used as a way of displaying useful surgery information.
There is a live information screen within the waiting area giving information on the practice, day-to-day issues such as clinic delays, special events.
We use a telephone recording system which allows telephone conversations to be recorded.
Other improvements to the premises include easier access for our disabled patients and the provision of two dedicated car parking spaces.
